So ‘That Girl’ has been trending on social media (Tik Tok) for what feels like a few months now. However it literally hit me this past weekend, that I have literally had a ‘That Girl’ morning routine for like about a year now. I’m slightly shook because obviously the term ‘That Girl’ is pretty triggering for most people, & yes it’s extremely triggering for me. With that being said, my morning routine is literally a non-negotiable as to how I need to start my morning for a more-productive day. It’s taken a long time to get here & I perfected it while working from home full time. So now that i’m back to the office 2 days a week, there has been some shifts & tweaks on those mornings, but this is generally my usual ‘That Girl’ morning.
My Work From Home Morning Routine:
So I like to think I wake up decently early. I usually start to stir at about 5 am however when ‘P’ leaves for work at 5:45 am is when I usually get up or really start to wake up.
By 6am or 6:15 am, I have most likely gotten up & have picked out which workout I plan to do. So I usually start that by 6:15/6:20 to be finished & in the shower by 7 am.
7am – 7:30/7:45 – shower, get ready for the day – do skincare, makeup & hair.
7:30/7:45 am – make my morning Matcha. I shared last year how I make it, it’s changed a little but my morning matcha is a non-negotiable.
7:45 – 8:00 am – read book & drink matcha
8:00 – 8:30 am – Do whatever needs to be done around the house (empty dishwasher, throw in a load of laundry, vacuum, you name it).
8:30 am – start work
Yes this is very down to the minute & believe me, I actually watched the clock this week while I was working from home to be sure I got it right. What this blog taught me, is that I am way to ‘Type A’ in the mornings & I don’t know if that is a good thing. My ‘work at the office’ days, the mornings are very chaotic since i’m literally watching the clock, & there are clearly a few deleted aspects to the morning (reading, drinking matcha in the car, cleaning the house). Some morning’s I do go on a walk, so that shifts things a little since I wait for the sun to be shining for that, but it’s not an everyday thing. But yeah, my mood for the day is very representative of how my ‘morning’ went, which is bad to say. ‘P’ is also never allowed to not go to work, because if he isn’t out the door, I don’t know to wake up & there goes my ‘peaceful to me’ morning.
Do you have any morning non negotiable’s that make or break your day?
I also have a pretty much “by the minute” morning during the week. I love sleep and I like getting to work early to have a quiet start to my day, so I have my routine down to a science to achieve both. Up at 6:20 and out the door by 7:05, at work by 7:30. Now I have a key to my room so I don’t have to worry if it’s unlocked or not and I generally have about 20-30 minutes of no one else being in my room. I am able to plan for the day, photocopy, sit and enjoy a quiet classroom before the chaos starts. Other staff members usually arrive around 7:50-8:30, I go to the bathroom at 8:30 (since I usually don’t get another chance until 12 or 12:30) and then I have to get the students from their parents at 8:45 so it’s a really nice transition into my morning.

I love how you have your morning so routined and down to the minute as well.
Honestly morning quiet time is so needed, I couldn’t function without it.

Working out first thing in the morning is one of the toughest things to do. I myself choose writing first, so that I get more time to wake up, lol. You’re awesome for scheduling that for your first activity. Thanks for sharing this!

Waking up & writing is still impressive! You have a morning routine that works for you & that’s awesome!
Thanks, I try! Some days it’s hard & that’s okay!
