Lent 2021

Two years ago, I dug a little deeper than normal & shared what I would be giving up for lent in 2019, & then decided why the heck not & did it again last year. Clearly I decided to keep this going, cause here we are doing it for the 3rd year in a row! I am still not the best at going to church & praying even but there is still a part of me that wishes I did more & maybe next year ya know!

So today is Ash Wednesday (it seems too early for that this year).

Lent lasts for 40 days & begins the day following Shrove Tuesday, on Ash Wednesday (today!),   There are actually 46 days in between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday, but Sundays during Lent on not considered to be “prescribed.” Lent is supposed to be the season of reflection and preparation before the Easter Celebrations & Jesus’ resurrection.

My follow up to the original lent post had me confessing that yes, I didn’t quite keep any of them. You can read the whole post on that here. Here goes nothing maybe, just maybe this year I will get through it.

What Lent disciplines am I ready to take on this year?

My Lent Sacrifices of 2021:

  • Giving up drinking alcoholic beverages: Yes, you read that right. I will be giving up drinking anything with alcohol for 46 days. I know it’ll be a hard one since I do love a good glass of wine, but I feel like my body might thank me for this. We do have wine quite often so it’ll be a good break for me before the summer drinking season begins.

I’m hoping this isn’t too tough of one & that I can actually keep to this one. Yes, I clearly stepped back & am giving up less this year than normal but I actually want to stick it through, so the less to focus on restricting the better!

Wish me luck!

Are you giving up anything for Lent this year? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’m not doing lent this year. I was never raised to do lent at my church but I have participated in the last few years! I did need to refocus up on some of the spiritual promises I made last spring so that started yesterday. Guess it matches up with lent ☺️☺️

And I know you have committed to 46 days, but if you are struggling, Sundays aren’t included in the “40 days of lent” so you could technically drink on Sunday and still keep your lent promises haha
