& That’s a Wrap on 2018

Oh December.

In light of the new year, I figured I should quickly post a quick, quick update on this past month, I mean, I can’t end the month without doing so… Oh & I may have added my 2018 Recap into the same post. Multitasking at its finest if you ask me.

December, obviously flew on by. With work & Christmas events & Christmas Shopping, I can keep this list going for days. I swear I really did not stand a chance.

Here is a quick recap in case you missed any posts from December:

Now that my short & sweet December recap is out of the way, we can get to the good stuff, my 2018 Recap!

So as many of you know, 2018 was a wild year. So let me quickly break it down:

Work:
This past year I started a very adult job as a Communications & Operations Manager. I literally knew nothing about the start-up world or the investment world but I was thrown straight on in. I learned everything from financial speak to administrative duties to networking to event planning & honestly everything in between. It is one of those jobs where you learn a little bit of everything & I couldn’t be more grateful that I was able to snag such a job. I have met so many amazing people, attended a whole bunch of events/conferences, learned to network & honestly learned from the best. I have felt so exhausted both mentally & physically & emotionally, so many times this past year but in the end I honestly I am so grateful for the opportunities I have been given this past year & for the connections I now have!

Life:
Life was pretty busy this year. I went to a whole lot of concerts thanks to the Budweiser Stage Country Mega Pass, attended Boots & Hearts Music Festival for the 7th year in a row. Saw one football game (bills vs. bears), saw one leaf game (leafs vs. stars), saw one basketballs game (raps vs. cavs). Attended a few events/pop-ups outside of work: Happy Place Exhibit, The Museum of Illusions, & the GTA Photography Exhibit. I spent a whole lot of time with my family & my girls. I didn’t travel as much as I normally do, which is totally okay. This year I went down to the Bahamas for a long weekend & we started the year off traveling South Africa.
This year, running came back into my life. I ran the Lululemon 10km Waterfront Race here in Toronto & ran it in 53 minutes (my time to beat this year). I also finally bit the bullet & got my 200 Hr Hatha Yoga Teacher Certification. As mentally, physically & emotionally tough the 6 months were, it was worth it. I was able to learn about yoga & dive deeper into my own personal practice, I also learned how important it is to practice yoga not only on the mat but off the mat as well.
This year, I found myself staying in more often, reading books or watching tv & relaxing instead of going out, to be completely honest I loved this change, I have always preferred nights in to nights out. It really helped me set a schedule for myself & even save more money (like I had hoped).
I also started to slowly look at getting my own place, a condo to call my own, it’s a slow & tedious process but I know with time i’ll find a place I absolutely love. But for right now, i’ll just be here hiding in my childhood bedroom, which is also just as good if you ask me!

Dating:
Well, this past year I tried to start dating again after going on a hiatus, in the end, I ended the year the same way I started the year: Single.
We experimented with blind dates, dating apps, I could go on but you know what, nothing worked. I mean I could be mad about that but this past year I have learned so much about myself & what I want in my life, that if I just settle it wouldn’t be worth it.

Blog:
In November, we celebrated Uniquely Cass’ 1 year anniversary. Just looking back & I am in awe of all the awesome bloggers I have had the pleasure of connecting with, reading all your posts & being able to share my random thoughts/goals, etc with you all.
I also finally started a Twitter account for Uniquely Cass, I like keeping my personal life separate from my blog & twitter seemed like the perfect platform to use for that. It has been awesome meeting & engaging with other bloggers, I can’t believe I waited so long to join a social network!

There is so much more I can ramble on about that happened this past year, but thank you for bearing through this short but tedious recap. Just to add some colour to this, here are some photo highlights I have from the past year!
*Just be warned, you may have already seen most of these but I lost my phone recently & dummy didn’t back it up often at all so I lost a lot of recent & fun photos… *

With 2019 beginning tomorrow (crazy I know), I am just so excited for the new year! I can not wait to see what this year holds!

Thank you all for your love & support this past year!

Thanks for reading

  1. Wow! Very impressive Cass.

I love reading your posts. They are so interesting, human, and motivational. You really accomplished so much this year it’s almost unbelievable. How do you do it? It’s a great life.

Never settle. Settling is a recipe for anger, second guessing, doubt, lack of confidence, and misery. I think I’ve written to you before, don’t worry about that stuff. Trust me. It just happens. When the time is right, it will happen. God’s got a plan for you. Trust Him.

For me, the best thing I ever did was get my own place. Well actually, it was with a buddy, my best friend. It was just an apartment, but that helped me grow up fast and get my life moving. Again, when the time is right, get your own condo and you’ll love it!

    Love reading you,

    Happy New Year!
    Reid

PS I think the very first picture I saw of you was the one overlooking the lake/sea. Where is that anyway?

    • Thanks as always Reid! I tried, it was such a busy year!

Thanks for the tip, I definitely will not settle, I liek to take everything day by day & hope things fall into place, if they can.

Happy new year to you & your family Reid!

    • The picture was taken last New Years actually, its in South Africa. I forget exactly where unfortunately but it was along the way from Cape Town to the Cape of Good Hope. My dad actually took the picture, & it’s the best one I think he’s ever taken (he isn’t that good at pictures).

  2. It looks like you did a lot this year! I’m glad you’re getting a lot out of your job because sometimes it’s the hands-on stuff that you learn that ends up helping you the most. (Plus you got to go to a ton of holiday parties!)

We are both still single, and I don’t think I’m downloading any dating apps back onto my phone anytime soon. I just don’t want to waste my time right now. And we’re both in our childhood bedrooms. Who knows when I’ll be moving out. I’d rather stay at home right now and keep saving so I know I’m financially secure when I do move out.

Any running tips for a 10k? I feel like my time is going to be closer to 70 minutes…

Happy 2019 and I’m excited to see what you do in the new year! 🙂 ❤

    • I was a busy year, that I can say.
I’m glad too, its been such a rewarding experience.
Both single & in our childhood rooms. Honestly in the same boat, so not downloading any apps, conversations kinda suck on them & its been proven to feel like my times been wasted lol. & i totally understand, I feel like i’m slowly looking for places to keep saving money, which I am totally okay with!

Hmm, for a 10k i would say have some comfortable shoes you can wear for a while & move in for a while. Also, I found previously that when I practiced before hand the run wasn’t as bad. This time around I barely practiced & felt like I wanted to die 5k in. 70 minutes is better than nothing! gives you a number to beat the next time you run one 🙂

Happy 2019 babes, thanks & I can’t wait to see what you do in the new year too. ❤

      • From everything I’ve heard, the dating apps suck and are a huge waste of time. I don’t know personally since I was married long before dating apps were invented. Maybe try Blackpeoplemeet.com (JUST KIDDING! Haha!) or try the one for cheating married people (I forget the name of it…..Ashley something….JUST kidding again.).

You guys will be fine. You need to meet a spouse through everyday life or at church or something. You can’t trust it if it’s via a dating app, just by it’s nature. But of course, what do I know?

      • I ran 3.1 miles on Tuesday and 3.1 miles on Wednesday, so that’s basically running a 10k, right? Like that counts? haha I know I’ll have to wear good socks because I didn’t wear good ones yesterday and it was bugging me the entire time I was running.

      • good socks & shoes are so key!

But basically! That’s amazing I ran 5 k both on Tuesday & Thursday, i feel like I’m done with running for the week but I’m pushing for one more run, I just need to do it & not be lazy! You’re going to have no problems during the race!
